Spook-pop lady two-piece Flying Scribble announce details of the Melbourne release party for their debut album, We’re A Chameleon on Friday 10th of September at the Workers Club. Supported by experimental big-band pop-ensemble Patinka Cha Cha and medi-evil disco peddlers Tantrums, Flying Scribble promise an audio-visual banquet with guest artists creating a live eyeball-feast to accompany each act. Flying Scribble are bold multi-instrumentalists making a startlingly mountainous sound for a duo. Their music is notoriously difficult to describe yet inexplicably infectious, traversing polar extremes of musical environments and reflecting the journey the pair have been on in the last six years of collaboration. Two years in the making, We’re A Chameleon was recorded entirely by the band and was mixed by the masterful Cornel Wilczek (Qua) in his Electric Dream Studios. Flying Scribble is where electronica meets dream pop and brazen rhythm meets soaring melody, all passionately performed with the ‘anything-goes’ expressionism that they have become renowned for.

Formed in Auckland’s Mt Roskill, they’ve been making a racket around the garages and practice rooms since 2004. Locally, it wasn’t long before they were filling the basement bars and urban hang outs with their warm fuzzed up and strummed down frenetic tones. Surf City were moving the sound forward into the new millennium. It wasn’t long before this sound garnered them some tidy gigs. These included support slots with Interpol, Dinosaur Jnr, Battles and MGMT, the Big Day Out and the Laneway Festival. Between all this touring the band have come up trumps with an amazing debut album. It is calledKudos. IN STORES SEPTEMBER 3rd. Come celebrate with the band who are joined by The Laurels and Milk Teddy on Saturday, September 11 at The Workers Club.

The album was nominated for the Australian Music Prize, received 4 stars in Rolling Stone, and was described by Rave magazine as ‘a stunning debut of beguiling vocals and sublime melodies’. Now, in 2010, with a whole new band in tow, Tobias is back on the radar with his highly anticipated follow up, ‘A Trophy’. Produced by the
legendary Tim Whitten, the album is a richly textured affair, filled with arresting music, searching lyrics and, of course, Cummings’ distinctively plaintive voice. To celebrate the release of ‘A Trophy’ Tobias (and band) will launch the LP at The Workers Club on Saturday the 18th of September. Supports come from Ancient Free Gardeners and Brendan Welch.

SOPHIA BROUS (first show with full band in ages – hear, hear!) - Shimmering 60s incantations via the Western frontier. A misty dawn opens as the titles begin to roll…cue Brous with her band of merry musicalas. If you haven’t heard Sophia’s spellbinding music before then this is the time. LOST ANIMAL - Since disbanding St Helens, Jarrod Quarrell has focussed his energies on solo project Lost Animal, described as “rhythmic brew of minimal keyboard melodies, melodic funk bass, free jazz sax licks and broken hearted crooner vocals”. FRANCIS PLAGNE BAND - Incorporating field recordings and improvisations with harmony-rich pop songs of the finest order, Francis Plagne has become one of the most unusual, identifiable and exciting musicians to emerge in Australia. Full stop. HUNTER DIENNA: This concert marks Hunter Dienna’s first live shows since their acclaimed appearances at Nick Cave’s historic ATP Festivals in 2009. Recently relocated to Melbourne, siblings Xanthe and Tom Waite weave dark, moody songs held together by their powerful voices. First band on so come early.

French-born Australian singer-songwriter Adrien Siboulet (aka SiB) says “It all comes from the blues for me. I think there’s a healing process through the song, there’s salvation.” After extensive travels and performing in Europe and USA over the last couple of years SiB has returned to our shores with a more Americana Psychedelic Blues Rock inspired sound with a hint of Soul. Joined by Joe Cope on the Hammond organ (The Hello Morning, Eagle & The Worm), Luke Bolton on bass and Andy Reed on drums (the Whitley rhythm section) SiB recorded live, with the help of his producer friend Colin Leadbetter, his new EP “Hunter Street” at the Bakehouse Studio in North Fitzroy on a cold Monday night back in May 2010. SiB & his band of outlaws will be launching the first single “Jezabelle” (an alt-country inspired love song about a man haunted by the ghost of a passionate love affair) at The Workers Club on Saturday 25th of September 2010 with supports from Tommy Spender and The Black Hill Five. $10 Pre-sale tickets available online through Moshtix or $12 on the night at the door.
